Dr. TAN Eng Khim graduated with BVMS from Murdoch University, Perth. Eng Khim (E.K.) was conferred the clinical postgraduate Master of Veterinary Studies (MVS) from Murdoch University after clearing the thesis component, where he wrote on: Rabbit Anesthesia and Surgery, Perspective Study of Heartworm Infection and Treatment in Singapore; and, Tick Diseases (Babesia gibsonii). He got a DISTINCTION for the postgraduate Infectious and Parasitic Diseases unit examination; and, he passed his postgraduate Medicine II unit examinations (Cardiology, Gastrointestinal medicine and Respiratory medicine).
E.K. completed his Post-graduate Certificate in Veterinary Studies in Small Animal Practice from Murdoch University. E.K. passed the postgraduate Dermatology unit examination and managed a DISTINCTION for the postgraduate Medicine I unit (Neurology, Renal medicine, Endocrinology) examinations. He also passed the postgraduate Surgery I (Soft Tissue Surgery) unit examinations.
E.K. has recently been awarded the RCVS Advanced Practitoner status in Small Animal Practice.
E.K. attended the 11th European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS) course on optimising the management of clinical disorders in companion animals: Ultrasound and Cardiology.
E.K. also has a Bachelor of Science from the National University of Singapore majoring in Microbiology with a minor in Computer Programming and Applications (Scientific Computational and Multimedia Communications). He is an Ordinary Member of the Singapore Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology. He had worked professionally at Schering Plough as a microbiologist. E.K. was hired as a researcher in Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNAPS) at the University of Hong Kong, and taught as a teaching assistant. He was offered a post-graduate studentship from the University of Hong Kong.
In 2000, E.K. was a Japan Airlines Foundation Scholarship recipient; this scholarship gave him the opportunity to study in Japan. In Japan, he studied Asian Studies and Japanese Business. He was awarded the Ted de Ponti Scholarship while he was a student at the National University of Singapore.
Besides western veterinary medical trainings, as part of his final year studies, he undertook his electives in Veterinary Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, basic Tui-Na principles and food therapy with Dr Bruce Ferguson (Board Member of the American Journal of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine). As such, E.K. has the knowledge to employ these holistic modalities including homeopathy and Bach Flower essences.
E.K. has special interest in the field of Veterinary Dermatology, canine and feline (dog and cat) Internal Medicine, Microbiology, Exotic Animal Medicine and Complementary Holistic care. He is a member of the Fish Veterinary Society of United Kingdom. He was the Honorary Editor of the Singapore Veterinary Association 09/10. He is currently registered as a Veterinary Surgeon in United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore.
